If you're not on the level you're talking about, why argue with what they have to say. Instead of immediately trying to pick apart his sentence and attack everything he has to say, you should view it as a joke, from what more than likely it sounded to be. Having to prove you're smart and having people already know you're smart are two different things. You already know your brother is smart yet, you're trying to prove he's not, in which makes it seem you are trying to prove you are smart. Honesty is what counts.
